Why work for us

Standard Content

We are the professional membership body for UK fundraising. We champion our members' excellence in fundraising and support fundraisers through professional development and education. We connect fundraisers across all sectors and skill sets to share and learn with each other. So that together, we can best serve our causes and communities both now and in the future.

We provide world-leading professional development opportunities to continuously enhance the sector's knowledge, skills, and behavioural capability. We also support fundraisers to find their next step on the career ladder with our jobs board.

We also support the sector with guidance on key topics. For example, support on the Fundraising Codes of Practice and fundraising in a pandemic.

We support both big brand charities and smaller charities with offerings catered to their size and need.

We also set up and have run the Remember A Charity campaign for the last 20 years to encourage more people to leave a gift in their will to charity.

Working for us offers you a rewarding job, as well as the chance to support those roles so key to a charity's success: fundraisers. By working for us, you support not just one charity but multiple charity causes.

2022 and beyond

It's an exciting time to join us. We have a new Chief Executive and many new trustees and are developing a bold and ambitious strategy covering the next 5 years. All employees are a vital part of this journey and have a significant role in helping to define this strategy.

What it's like to be part of the Chartered Institute team?

As a small team (around 50 strong) with considerable reach within the sector, we are constantly busy. However, we benefit from being of a size where we all know each other and understand how to work together to achieve our aims. We have a friendly atmosphere and a strong desire to listen to those who work with us, so we can be flexible and work with you in true partnership to help you develop with us.

In return, we offer a friendly, skilled and motivated team, support to grow in your role, competitive salaries, generous annual leave, and a willingness to work flexibly with you wherever we can and more.

Inclusion, diversity and our values:

We want to make a difference to fundraising and the sector and have ambitious targets set through our change collective to make this a reality. So it stands to reason that we strive to live by these principles. No matter which part of the organisation we work in, we passionately believe that developing an equal, diverse and inclusive fundraising community is integral to delivering excellent fundraising.

To help us achieve this, we need people with all types of skills and from all kinds of backgrounds. It's important to us that our staff bring their skills and knowledge regardless of age, being trans, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant on maternity leave, disability, race (including colour), nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, belief or lack of religion/belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

We ask all applicants to tell us about their personal information by completing a monitoring form to help us monitor our processes and ensure that we treat everyone fairly. This information is not seen or used by the shortlisting or selection panel. You can read our privacy policy and how we use your data.
