This Volunteers’ Week, Trustee Nadine Campbell explains how she has found volunteering incredibly rewarding, and says that volunteers are the “boots on the ground” at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

Volunteering has always been a role I have found extremely rewarding. My journey with the Chartered Institute of Fundraising started over 10 years ago when I pivoted my career from marketing to fundraising.

Having been involved with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) I knew there were great benefits of getting involved with a chartered body. When I relocated back to Belfast after living in England for 13 years, I wanted to meet like-minded people and get to know my tribe. Becoming a member of the Northern Ireland Chartered Institute committee seemed like a natural step.

Over the years I had many roles, organising the annual conference, awards ceremony, lunchtime networking and learning sessions. In my role as Chair I led a sector wide consultation group to oversee the implementation of the Fundraising Regulator and launched the very first mentoring program specifically for fundraisers in NI.

After serving my term as Chair I took on the baton of applying to become a Trustee for the Chartered Institute. Since my inception in July 2020, there have been many challenges, some that could have been avoided, others not so. I along with my fellow Trustee Isobel Michael are leading the new Safeguarding Task Group, our remit is to ensure we make our events as safe as we possibly can. This is something we are both committed to and we will work towards this with the wider task group members. The last 15 months have been challenging for all of us. I am constantly learning and reflecting, I am really proud of our Chartered Institute and would say to anyone in fundraising, talk to your local group. They are the boots on the ground, you will learn so much and gain access to so much. Join a Chartered Institute group today! I love being part of the Chartered Institute and I am hugely proud of what we have achieved.
